2008 CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY Fort Morgan Police Department's Citizen Police Academy began September 8th. This ten week program gives attendees an in-depth look at police operation. Topics include - Investigations, SWAT, K-9, Jail Operations, Constitutional Law and many more. Classes are taught by police officers who have expertise in the topics being covered. We have had many positive responses from past graduates and instructors. Classes meet on Monday evenings for two hours. One Saturday morning class is scheduled for Firearms training, starting with safety issues covered in the classroom and then moving to the shooting range for hands on training. Because of some sensitive material, applicants must agree to a criminal background check and have no prior felony convictions. The Citizen Police Academy is not intended to train citizens to be police officers, but instead gives them the best overview and insight into the operations of the Fort Morgan Police Department. Participants have the opportunity of examine "tools of the trade" and ask questions about police work. For more information contact Officer Roger Doll at 542-3948.
